Greetings to sharks from near and far. Welcome to the Name Bubbles family!

Sharks are one of the coolest animals around. That is why we are so excited to announce them as our newest original design.

Have No Fear, Sharks are Here! Jaw-some design

This jaw-some design is now available in the following products:

So since we're all about our new fish friends over here, we wanted to share with you some fun factoids that converted us to shark fanatics! We also snuck in a few fun shark-themed activities for you and your little ones to get you all excited, and learn a thing or two along the way!

Shark-Tivities

Shark Lollipops

If you have a sweet tooth, this recipe is for you. Two words:
Shark. Lollipops. We love this one because it only requires four simple ingredients: blue Jolly Ranchers, Airheads, Gummy Sharks, and popsicle sticks. It is also an effortless way to create some craft time.

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 275 degrees.
  2. Cut the Airheads into thin pieces to resemble seaweed.
  3. Place three unwrapped Jolly Ranchers on a baking sheet above each other (make sure they are touching).
  4. Place the Jolly Ranchers in the oven for 4-5 minutes.
  5. Remove the Jolly Ranchers from the oven just as they melt together.
  6. Place a popsicle stick on each one.
  7. Let them cool off and harden for a few minutes, then place your seaweed and a shark on the Jolly Rancher lollipops.

Bring these treats to your next pool party, and don't forget to use our Dishwasher Safe Labels for your food containers so they can come back home at the end of it all.

There’s an App for That

If you're looking for a more realistic activity, we found a great website and app for you to enjoy. A big problem with the public's perception of sharks is that these fish are misunderstood.
OCEARCH aims to bring more light to these creatures. This remarkable technology allows us to have a clearer picture and increase knowledge about sharks. With this information, we can all work towards a more peaceful coexistence between sharks and humans. If you live close to the beach, this app is a beneficial tool to track sharks near you in real-time.

OCEARCH is also an exciting opportunity for anyone who is interested in learning more about sharks and seeing them out in action. The app allows you to see full migration patterns of tracked sharks, which by the way, each has a unique name. We will be the first to tell you, it is absolutely unbelievable how fast and far our friends can travel. You can even read up a little bit about each shark and find out interesting stuff like its sex, length, and life stage.

Fun Facts

  • Have No Fear, Sharks are Here! Fun FactsDid you know that a shark doesn't have a single bone in its body? Its skeleton is made up entirely of cartilage. That may be a fascinating fact, but what we were even more shocked to find out is that their cartilage is being studied with the hopes of it helping researchers develop anti-cancer drugs. Sharks are extraordinarily healthy and robust creatures that never get cancer. Thanks, guys!!!
  • Shark teeth are a dime a dozen. They replace their teeth every eight days.

Bad dentist? Nope! Just another evolutionary wonder. They will have approximately 30,000 teeth over the course of a lifetime. Their multiple rows of teeth are always working like a conveyor belt, basically continuously producing new teeth; and once the new set is ready, it pushes the old one out.
  • There is one question we can't seem to figure out the answer: Do sharks sleep? The problem is, sharks can't stop moving because they will sink, and/or the oxygen will stop flowing through their gills if they are without motion. So how do they ever get any rest?

While some sharks actually can stop moving for short periods of time, sharks do not sleep the way humans do. Sharks, instead, go through "active" and "rest" periods. The trick is, if a shark sits in front of a moving current, they can remain motionless while the current runs over their body. Genius! We couldn't imagine not getting any sleep, although, wait…we're flashing back to nights with a baby. Nevermind.
  • Sharks and Spider-Man have more in common than you think! For our new fishy friends, the catchphrase is "my shark-senses are tingling."

Get this: a shark can feel movements in the ocean that are hundreds of feet away. They can hear sounds that are more than two thousand feet away. Their amazing senses can even tell them where the movements and sounds are coming from too.
  • Perhaps known for being the gentlest shark in the ocean, the whale shark is also the biggest fish on Earth. It can weigh over 90,000 pounds (that's how I felt after Thanksgiving dinner last year) and grow up to thirty-three feet long. It's incredible what they eat to get that figure, too! Their diet consists of plankton, plankton, and more plankton. Delish!
  • On the other end of the spectrum, we found out about the beautiful Dwarf Lantern Shark. It's only about 7 inches long, and it can fit right in the palm of your hand. Apparently, it's rarely observed, and only a little bit of information is known about it. This species of shark has only been seen a few times off the northern tip of South America at depths of over 1,000 feet.

Nonetheless, what we do know is that this particular shark is pretty cool. The shark has light-emitting organs, which attract smaller animals that it then eats. That's a pretty efficient way to catch a quick dinner! And, it's almost like having candlelight. How romantic!

There are so many awesome things to learn about sharks

There are so many awesome things to learn about sharks, and there is more information than could fit in an entire book that we would love to share. We hope this sparked something in you so you and your little one can go off and learn even more, because sharks rock!

Unfortunately, though, the whole world doesn't see it that way. Out of 500+ species of sharks, 148 of them are endangered. We can help in many ways, but the first thing we must do is educate ourselves and others about these magnificent creatures.

We hope this got you excited to stick our new shark labels on all of your pool toys, water bottles, or whatever you want! You and your kiddo will hopefully have plenty of fun facts to throw out to anyone who notices (and we promise, everyone will take notice).

Sharks will make a fin-tastic addition to our family! It's always exciting to add new friends to the lineup.

We'll see you next week on The Weekly Bubble!
