Back to School, Name Bubbles Style
We can't believe it is already here. It feels like Summer just began! However, after our years of experience, it seems to be that the earlier you start your back to school shopping, the less headache you'll have later on. Now, that's not to say you won't have a headache at all, but we hope we can make it a little less intense.
School is definitely going to look a little different this year. There is no "one-size fits all" model. Based on where you are, you might have different expectations for what to expect this coming year. You could also be in the boat of not knowing anything at all yet!
We hear you, we feel you, and we hope this preparation guide can eliminate the uncertainty a little bit. Here are our top tips for getting ready for back to school in 2020:
Communicate: Create a relationship with your child's teacher or teachers for this upcoming year. This will be critical for a smooth transition for everyone involved! Additionally, communicating with your children openly about anything they might be unsure about will help remove some unfamiliar feelings surrounding the upcoming school year.
If you don't know, be honest! We teach our children that honesty is the best policy, and it will serve us well to take our own advice.
Lend a Helping Hand: Things will look different this year. However, this year will only be successful for our kids if we all pitch in a little more than usual to help our teachers out. The help may not always be needed, but it will certainly be appreciated. Our teachers feel the brunt of the current situation and deserve all of our love, support, and beyond.
Make it Easy to Get Back in the Zone: No matter what form your schooling will take, start establishing the routine earlier rather than later.
If your kids are going back to school, it will be a new environment. Do a dry run with your little ones, so they know more or less what to expect when they are back in school. You can practice eating lunch out of your kid's lunch box safely with clean hands and making sure your kiddos keep track of their belongings.
Make home their safe haven when they return at the end of each day. This will be very important for keeping up morale throughout the school year. The home will ideally be a protective place and will foster the ability to stay on track amidst the unknown. Some things like deciding on a regular homework time and having a designated quiet space will create that environment. Organize your child's personal space, so they know it's theirs. You can use our Name Labels to let them know what belongs to them!
Pack Smart: We've read that your child's backpack should never weigh more than 10 to 20 percent of his or her body weight. Heavy packs can strain developing muscles and joints. I wonder if that same rule applies when parents are lugging around their kids, a bag, and whatever else might be hanging off of us on any given day?
In all seriousness, though, making sure your child is only carrying what he or she needs is paramount to making school an enjoyable experience. Our School Labels help tremendously with making sure things - like notebooks, water bottles, pencils, pens, school uniforms, etc. - are where they need to be, when they need to be there. So you would be doing yourself a favor adding one or more of our School Label Packs to your back to school supplies list.
Side note: We are currently running a back to school sale where all of our School Label Packs are 20% + Free Shipping. Sale ends on 7/20 at 9am.
Keep a Calendar: We love keeping schedules. Keeping a big one for the family in an open space for all to see is a helpful tool to stay organized. However, don't stop there! Having your kiddos keep their own calendars will teach them how to keep on top of their responsibilities.
It's also arguably the most fun way to teach time management (if there is such a thing). There are free online calendars that are readily available; but there are thousands of different planners for every need if you see this as an investment. We recommend sticking one of the labels found in our Family Labels Pack on each planner so as to avoid any mix-ups.
After all, you wouldn't want to accidentally show up for your son's playdate at 1 P.M. instead of that meeting!
Keep Shoes on the Right Feet: Picture this: it's 7 A.M. and you are running out the door trying to get everyone off to school. It happens! With our Shoe Labels, you can cut time down in the morning for your little one and help them figure out which shoe belongs to which child, and which shoe goes on which foot. The shoe labels are the perfect trick for any youngster because it shows them which foot will be the right fit; how great is that?!
Lunch Success: Set yourself up for success either the night before or the morning of when you are packing lunches. Our Write-On Labels are perfect for keeping your pantry organized. You can grab one item from the snack bin, the drink bin, and the fruit bin each time, making packing lunches a breeze.
- Designate a Path and a Home for Important Paperwork: It's a tale as old as time. Your child forgets to bring home an important piece of paper, like a report card, a homework assignment, or a note from the teacher.
These hiccups are normal and common. However, there are many ways that you can limit them from happening. First, designate a space in your child's backpack or in their cubby/locker for important documents. That way, when they receive them, they have a way to make it home without getting lost. And finally, when the documents do make it home, have a designated folder or drawer you keep them in. These simple steps will help keep the drama out of your school year!
We hope these tips and tricks helped paint a clearer picture for the upcoming school year. Our priority is making your life easier and helping your kids get off on the right foot. We've been leaders in the game for over a decade, so it's only right to pass along what we've learned to you.
